PSB Awards Rs. 72M to Boost Athletes and Sports Federations Nationwide
Special Olympics Stars Honored with Cash Awards for World Winter Games Success
Islamabad — In a landmark initiative to uplift sports in Pakistan, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Wednesday distributed a total of Rs. 8.2 million in cash awards to 36 athletes and Rs. 63.9 million in grants to 22 national sports federations. The high-profile ceremony in Islamabad was attended by Advisor to the Prime Minister on Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah Khan, Federal Secretary Mohiuddin Wani, and Director General PSB Muhammad Yasir Pirzada.
The event celebrated the achievements of athletes who brought international recognition to the country. Among the recipients, Olympian javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem received Rs. 2 million for winning gold, while his coach Salman Iqbal Butt was awarded Rs. 600,000.
In snooker, Ahsan Ramzan earned Rs. 500,000 for a bronze medal at the U-21 Asian Championship, Muhammad Asif received Rs. 500,000 for a gold at the SAARC Snooker Championship, and Muhammad Naseem Akhtar was awarded Rs. 100,000.
Table tennis players also received recognition: Abdal Muhammad Khan received Rs. 250,000 for a silver medal in the U-15 singles and Rs. 187,500 along with Zunaira Khan for silver in U-15 mixed doubles. Abdal and teammates were also granted Rs. 75,000 each for boys’ doubles and team events.
Special Olympics participants were lauded for their performance at the World Winter Games. Abdul Saboor Ahmad earned Rs. 250,000 for gold in 400m Snowshoeing and Rs. 100,000 for bronze in the 200m. Muhammad Afaq Khan, Muhammad Moazzam Iqbal, and Muneeb ur Rehman received Rs. 250,000 each for gold medals, with Muneeb honored for victories in both 50m and 100m Cross Country Skiing. Relay team members and female athletes, including Minahil, Raveena Qurban, Iqra Akram, Shah Galoon Hayat, and Tabassum, also received Rs. 150,000 each.

This financial disbursement includes Rs. 32.9 million in annual grants and Rs. 31 million in special grants, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting athletes and enhancing the national sports infrastructure.
Officials emphasized that this strategic investment would help improve training, facilities, and international participation of Pakistani athletes — paving the way for future excellence on global stages.
