Progressive Panel sweeps Gilgit Press Club elections uncontested

GILGIT: (Web Desk) – The Gilgit Press Club elections for 2026–27 concluded with the Progressive Panel securing victory unopposed after rival groups withdrew from the race.

According to the Election Commission’s official notification, the Democratic Panel and the Working Journalist Panel stepped down in favor of the Progressive Panel, paving the way for a unanimous outcome.

As per the results, Tahir Rana was elected President, while Saadat Ali took the position of Senior Vice President. Mehtab-ur-Rehman was named Vice President, and Wajahat Ali assumed the role of General Secretary.

Additionally, Syed Sher Abbas was elected Finance Secretary and Anwar Hussain Nehal as Joint Secretary. Members elected to the Supreme Body include Manzar Hassan Shugri, Nadeem Khan, Shahzad Hussain, Shirin Karim, and Basharat Mohandas Abbasi.

The Election Commission had set March 24 as the deadline for submission of nomination papers. Initially, two panels filed nominations, but after the Democratic Panel withdrew, the Progressive Panel was declared elected without contest.
