Private Schools Defy Winter Vacations, Spark Protests in Azad Kashmir

Public circles have questioned the effectiveness of government directives

Rawalakot: (Our Correspondent) – Several private schools across Azad Kashmir have reopened despite an ongoing severe cold wave, openly defying the government’s official winter vacation notification and drawing strong protests from parents and local residents. The move has forced thousands of young children to attend classes in freezing temperatures, raising serious concerns about their health and safety.

Residents say that while government-run schools remain closed due to extreme weather, private institutions are compelling students to travel early in the morning through dense fog, icy winds, and near-freezing conditions. Parents and teachers have termed the situation unjust and irresponsible, arguing that children’s well-being is being compromised for academic or financial reasons.

Public circles have questioned the effectiveness of government directives, asking how official notifications can be ignored without consequence. Many have expressed concern that private schools appear to be operating beyond the authority of the Education Department.

Parents have appealed to education officers and district administrations to take immediate action, calling for inspections, strict enforcement of the notification, and punitive measures including fines, closures, and legal proceedings against violators. Citizens stressed that protecting children’s health during severe weather must take precedence over all other considerations.
