Principal, wife, lecturer, two students booked over Fehmida’s suicide

A young medical student reached out for help. No one listened. Now five people are facing the consequences.

Mirpurkhas – (Web Desk) – Five people have been booked in connection with the death of 21-year-old medical student Fahmeeda Laghari in Mirpurkhas. The accused include college principal Tanveer Alam, his wife Professor Farzana, pharmacy lecturer Abid Laghari and two students. Police say the case was filed on the complaint of Fahmeeda’s uncle and includes charges of harassment and abetment to suicide.

According to the complaint, Fahmeeda had been blackmailed by the lecturer and two students. She reportedly took the matter to the college principal and his wife multiple times but instead of helping her, they pushed her to drop the complaint and stay quiet.

When Fahmeeda refused to back down, things got worse. She was allegedly threatened with expulsion and faced more harassment from the administration that was supposed to protect her.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, commonly known as PMDC, has now stepped in. The council has asked the Sindh government for a full and transparent inquiry report and has also requested complete records from the college.

PMDC President Professor Rizwan Taj said he was deeply saddened by Fahmeeda’s death and strongly condemned what happened. He made it clear that disciplinary action would be taken against the college and that both faculty members and the institution could face consequences if found guilty.

Professor Taj also reminded all medical and dental colleges that they are required to have anti-harassment committees in place. He said students can also reach out and file complaints directly with the council’s own harassment committee.

He ended with a firm message. The safety and mental well-being of students comes first and anyone found responsible for wrongdoing will face strict action. There is zero tolerance for harassment or threats of any kind.
