Prime Minister pledges cabinet’s one-month salary to help KPK flood victims

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister announced to donate one month’s salary of the federal cabinet for the flood victims of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A review meeting on the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of the recent devastating rains and floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir was held in Islamabad today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

The meeting was briefed on the ongoing relief activities of the NDMA and the federal ministers appointed by the Prime Minister for assistance.

The participants were informed that the federal government, provincial governments, Pakistan Army, and other institutions have so far established 456 relief camps for the victims, as well as 400 rescue operations have been carried out, including today, trucks containing relief items are being delivered to the victims.

The Prime Minister directed that convoys of relief trucks be sent to the most affected areas on a priority basis first.

According to the conservative estimate so far, the damage to public and private property worth more than Rs 126 million has been estimated.

A report was presented by the NDMA on the provision of rations, tents, medicines, medical teams, and other items. The Prime Minister directed to further increase the number of items.

The meeting was informed that the monsoon will continue till the second week of September, 6 major spells have passed, while 2 more are expected, whose effects will continue till the last week of September.
