Prime Minister Li Qiang Meets Pakistan’s Top Military Chiefs

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang held a significant meeting with Pakistan’s top military leadership during his visit to Islamabad for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

In this high-level discussion, Prime Minister Li met with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee as well as the heads of Pakistan’s armed forces. Both parties reiterated their commitment to deepening and broadening their strategic partnership, which has been vital to maintaining regional stability.

The talks focused on several key issues, including defense cooperation and counter-terrorism strategies. Prime Minister Li commended Pakistan’s military for its crucial role in the fight against terrorism, acknowledging their sacrifices and accomplishments in ensuring peace and security in the region.

He assured that China will continue to support Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism, emphasizing the importance of joint collaboration to address emerging security threats.

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Li reaffirmed China’s unwavering commitment to Pakistan’s development and prosperity, highlighting the “eternal” bond between the two nations.

Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the New Gwadar International Airport, Li noted that the completion of this major infrastructure project marks a pivotal achievement under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He stressed the importance of Gwadar Airport in boosting regional connectivity, describing it as a “world-class airport” that symbolizes the strength of the Pakistan-China friendship.

“The airport’s completion will enhance international trade and accelerate development in Pakistan’s western regions, especially Gwadar,” he said, praising the joint efforts of both nations’ workforce.

Following the inauguration, a signing ceremony took place where several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were formalized between Pakistan and China. These agreements focus on the development of smart classrooms, water resource management, and enhanced cooperation in information and communication technology (ICT).
