
Prime Minister Calls for Dams After Punjab Flooding
Urgent Action Needed to Prevent Future Climate Disasters
Punjab – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urgently called for the construction of new water reservoirs and small dams. He stated this is critical to handle future climate change challenges, like the floods currently affecting Punjab.
Speaking to officials in Narowal, the PM noted that Pakistan is hit hard by extreme weather. He recalled the massive 2022 floods and pointed out that recent rains have again caused destruction and loss of life.
The Prime Minister praised the teamwork of the Punjab government, rescue services, and police. He said their nonstop efforts have helped to minimize the damage from the flooding.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz confirmed that over 50,000 people have been moved to safety. She promised compensation for victims and action against buildings constructed in water pathways.
She also stressed the vital need to build dams and water storage systems. Her government has ordered the creation of new programs to harvest rainwater and store floodwater to prevent future disasters.
