Plan Outlines 100 MW Solar Project for Gilgit-Baltistan and Energy Ministry

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a 100-megawatt solar power project for Gilgit-Baltistan, directing federal and regional authorities to begin implementation without delay.

According to the plan presented to the Prime Minister, the project comprises an 18 MW rooftop solar initiative and an 82 MW utility-scale solar installation. The scheme is expected to be executed jointly by the Gilgit-Baltistan government and the Ministry of Energy.

Officials briefed the Prime Minister that the project is targeted for completion by 2027. Once operational, it is estimated to generate savings of around Rs 1 billion annually due to reduced reliance on expensive energy sources.

The Prime Minister instructed the concerned departments to ensure timely provision of land, infrastructure and necessary administrative support to keep the implementation process on schedule. He remarked that delivering practical solutions to Gilgit-Baltistan’s long-standing energy challenges remains a priority for the federal government.
