Lahore: Cricket enthusiasts across Pakistan are gearing up for the highly anticipated President’s Cup, set to commence from Wednesday, April 24. The 24-match tournament will showcase the talent and competitiveness of seven esteemed departmental cricket teams, with matches scheduled to take place in Abbottabad and Rawalpindi until May 12.
The President’s Cup promises thrilling cricket action as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), fresh off their victory in the prestigious President’s Trophy, aims to secure yet another championship title. Joining them in the tournament are six other formidable teams: Pakistan Television (PTV), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), Higher Education Commission (HEC), and Ghani Glass.
In a format designed to maximize excitement, the teams will engage in a single round-robin competition, with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals after 21 league matches. Matches will be played across renowned venues such as the Shoaib Akhtar Stadium, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.
Fans can look forward to witnessing star players in action, with Ahmed Shehzad leading WAPDA, Usman Salahuddin captaining SBP, and Rohail Nazir at the helm of KRL, among others.
The tournament boasts a significant prize pool of PKR 2.5 million, with the victorious team set to receive PKR 1.5 million along with the coveted trophy.

Abdullah Khurram Niazi, Director of Domestic Cricket Operations, expressed optimism about the return of departmental cricket, emphasizing its role in providing opportunities for emerging talent and revitalizing the domestic cricket scene in Pakistan.
