President Zardari Launches Benazir Hunarmand Programme to Equip Youth with Global Skills

Senator Rubina Khalid: Rs. 716 Billion Allocated for BISP to Support Benazir Hunarmand and Expanded Outreach

Islamabad – President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday formally launched the Benazir Hunarmand Programme, a major initiative aimed at providing advanced vocational training to Pakistani youth, with a particular focus on technology and foreign languages, to help them compete in international job markets.

The launch ceremony, held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, coincided with the birthday of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. Speaking at the event, President Zardari said the new programme builds on the success of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which has uplifted millions of underprivileged families across the country.

He emphasized that the Hunarmand Programme will pave the way for economic self-reliance by equipping the younger generation with in-demand skills. The initiative will offer training in key sectors including nursing, computer technology, and foreign languages such as German and Chinese. Highlighting the global demand for healthcare professionals, the President called for particular emphasis on nursing training.

“This programme reflects the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to empower the people through education, skills, and opportunity,” President Zardari said. “Our youth must be prepared to shape a better future for themselves and the country.”

Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of BISP, also spoke at the event, stating that the programme will use BISP’s vast beneficiary database to identify and target deserving individuals, ensuring inclusive access to economic opportunities. She announced that Rs. 716 billion has been allocated for BISP in the upcoming fiscal year to support expanded outreach and new initiatives like Benazir Hunarmand.
