President Zardari Calls for Unity Against Drug Abuse on International Day
President Zardari underscored the need for creating awareness, strengthening anti-narcotics laws, and investing in prevention and treatment programs.
ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, President Asif Ali Zardari issued a powerful message emphasizing the critical need for prevention and collective action to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Pakistan.
With this year’s theme being “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,” President Zardari highlighted the urgency of intensifying efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society. He noted that drug production and illicit trafficking not only severely impact the youth and their families but also serve as a significant source of funding for criminal and terrorist activities.
“Addressing the root causes of drug abuse requires an integrated approach involving all stakeholders, including Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), media, civil society, parents, and teachers,” said President Zardari. He stressed the importance of targeting drug suppliers and peddlers, particularly within educational institutions, and called for proactive measures by LEAs to take strict actions against individuals involved in drug trafficking.
President Zardari also underscored the need for creating awareness, strengthening anti-narcotics laws, and investing in prevention and treatment programs. He emphasized the role of community engagement and education in safeguarding the youth from the harmful impacts of drug abuse. “We should divert the energies of our youth into healthy and productive activities,” he added.

Calling upon every citizen to support the government’s efforts, President Zardari urged the public to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse at the individual, family, and community levels. He emphasized prioritizing prevention and treatment to achieve a drug-free Pakistan.
“The future of our young generation lies in our hands,” President Zardari concluded. “Through our collective efforts, we can achieve a drug-free Pakistan, Insha’Allah.”
