President AJK stands firm for Kashmir

He urged India to recognize that it cannot suppress the legitimate struggle and aspirations of the Kashmiri people through force.

ISLAMABAD (Shoaib Mehmood): In a resolute response to the recent Indian Supreme Court’s decision regarding the abrogation of Article 370, President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, has asserted that the verdict is not only a violation of the Indian constitution but also defies United Nations resolutions recognizing the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

President Chaudhry, addressing the press in Islamabad on December 11, 2023, expressed his concern over the court’s decision, emphasizing that it contradicts international norms and the right of the Kashmiri people to determine their political future. He called for a memorandum to allow Kashmiris the opportunity to exercise their right to self-determination, as outlined in United Nations resolutions.

Terming Kashmir as an internationally recognized disputed territory, President Chaudhry declared that the people of Kashmir are not bound by the Indian Supreme Court’s decision. He criticized the verdict as biased and lopsided, favoring the Modi government’s pursuit of Hindutva policies.

In his comments on the recent ruling delivered by a five-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, President Chaudhry asserted that the decision has exposed India’s so-called democracy and secularism at the international level. He labeled the court ruling as a clear violation of UN resolutions and international laws.
