ISLAMABAD— A strong earthquake hit Bangladesh on Friday morning, causing widespread panic and resulting in at least three deaths and several injuries, according to police and health officials.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the 5.7-magnitude quake struck near Narsingdi at 10:38 a.m. local time, approximately 33 kilometers from the capital, Dhaka.
The tremors were felt in Dhaka and surrounding cities, prompting residents to rush out of buildings in fear.
Authorities confirmed that rescue operations are underway, and the injured are being transported to nearby hospitals. While no major structural damage has been reported so far, local officials have dispatched teams to assess the affected areas.
