Power Minister Praises NGC Indigenization Policy Success

Sardar Awais Laghari Applauds NGC Indigenization Policy Driving Economic Stability

Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has commended the National Grid Company’s (NGC) indigenization policy, calling it a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s economy. He highlighted that contracts worth PKR 12.673 billion have been awarded to domestic industries, while the country has achieved nearly 40 percent savings on transmission line conductors compared to imports.

The minister said these results reflect the government’s commitment to reforms aimed at promoting local production, reducing reliance on foreign goods, and generating real economic gains. He noted that the policy is helping local manufacturers grow through educational orders, partnerships with international firms, and the creation of local subsidiaries.

Under this initiative, nine educational orders worth PKR 900 million have been issued, while 11 local companies have been registered to enhance their technical capabilities, contributing to industrial development.

He further stated that the policy is not only reducing costs but also supporting macroeconomic stability by saving valuable foreign exchange. The availability of locally produced materials is also speeding up project timelines, enabling faster development of key transmission infrastructure across the country.

Looking ahead, the minister described indigenization as a key driver for export-oriented growth, particularly in sectors such as steel, cables, and conductors, where local expertise has significantly improved. He reaffirmed the Power Division’s commitment to promoting initiatives that ensure industrial self-sufficiency and sustainable economic progress.
