Portugal to Recognize Palestinian State Before UN Assembly

Portugal joins other European nations in recognizing an independent Palestinian state, backing peace efforts.

UN – Portugal – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Portugal’s government announced it will officially recognize Palestinian statehood on September 21, aligning with Spain, Ireland, and Norway in support of a two-state solution.

The decision backs the Palestinian Authority as the legitimate government, excluding groups like Hamas, and precedes a UN General Assembly where up to 10 more countries may follow.

This move comes amid escalating Middle East tensions and Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, with 147 UN members already recognizing Palestine.
