Polling for by-elections on 63 LG seats in 26 Sindh districts
Karachi: (Staff Reporter) Polling for by-elections on 63 local government seats in 26 Sindh districts on which elections were postponed due to deaths of candidates, started at 8:00 am on Sunday.
According to the source, the polling will continue till 5 pm without any break in the evening. Polling is being held for 26 seats of 11 UCs and 15 wards in seven Karachi districts, while in rest of 19 districts of Sindh, election will be held on 37 seats.
As per details on this occasion, more than 7,000 police personnel are performing security duties in Karachi, while 292 polling stations in 26 districts have been declared highly sensitive and 157 sensitive. In Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Matiari, Tando Allahyar and Jamshoro polling will be held on one seat each while in Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Badin and Sajawal polling will be held on two seats each.
Furthermore Elections will be held on three seats each in Noushahro Feroz, Dadu and Thatta, while 10 seats will be up for grab in Hyderabad in connection with the by-elections. It should be remembered that the election could not be held due to the death of candidates for the seats of Member District Council, Chairman, Vice Chairman and General Council.
Moreover these elections can potentially change the current status-quo for the Mayor Karachi elections. Whereas, it can also be a new ray of hope for the distressed population of the city demanding their legitimate rights, standard of living and providence of basic utilities.
