Poliovirus Detected Again in Karachi’s Central District

To date, Pakistan has reported a total of eight polio cases in 2024.

KARACHI: The presence of poliovirus has been confirmed once more in an environmental sample from Karachi’s Central District, according to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) spokesperson.

An environmental sample collected from Haji Murid Goth on June 6 tested positive for the virus. This marks the sixth positive poliovirus sample from the Central District this year.

To date, Pakistan has reported a total of eight polio cases in 2024. The recurring detection of the virus underscores the ongoing challenges in the fight against polio in the region.
