Police Officer Martyred in Armed Attack on Shikarpur Checkpost

SHIKARPUR: (Web Desk) – A police officer was martyred when armed assailants launched an attack on a police checkpost located on Zarkhel Link Road within the jurisdiction of New Faujdari Police Station in Shikarpur, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to police sources, unidentified attackers opened indiscriminate fire at the checkpost, resulting in the martyrdom of Constable Saghir Sanjrani. The assailants reportedly seized the martyred officer’s official weapon before fleeing the scene while continuing to fire shots.

Following the incident, a heavy police contingent rushed to the area and launched a comprehensive search operation to track down the suspects. Law enforcement agencies sealed several internal and external routes in the surrounding area, while fear and anxiety spread among local residents due to the sudden attack.

Massive Transfers and Postings in Punjab Police

The body of the martyred officer was shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed the SSP Shikarpur to submit a detailed report on the initial police response and subsequent actions taken after the attack.

The home minister also ordered the immediate formation of district-level police raid teams and expressed confidence that the perpetrators would be arrested soon through intelligence-led and technical investigations. He further instructed authorities to keep him regularly informed about the progress of the case.
