LAHORE: In a distressing development, six children lost their lives in Lahore due to pneumonia-related cases, marking a somber single-day toll in the capital of Punjab.

A total of 140 cases were reported in Punjab, with 60 cases concentrated in Lahore alone, underscoring the severity of the outbreak.

Health department data reveals that Lahore has been grappling with a surge in pneumonia cases, recording 780 cases in government hospitals in January alone.

The overall tally for Punjab stands at 4,900 reported pneumonia cases.

The hospital outpatient departments are witnessing an influx of patients, particularly children, presenting symptoms related to cold weather, including fever, cough, flu, and chest infections.

The situation is exacerbated by the extreme cold weather and smog in Lahore and surrounding areas, posing a heightened risk, especially for the elderly population.
