In response to the rising pneumonia cases attributed to smog, dry weather, and cold temperatures, Punjab authorities have taken proactive measures to address the situation. Over the past 24 hours, 11 lives were tragically lost to the illness, prompting urgent action from health officials. With 415 new cases reported across Punjab during this period, including 160 cases in Lahore alone, authorities are intensifying efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
Throughout the ongoing winter season, Punjab has seen a significant increase in pneumonia cases, with a total of 13,720 cases reported in the province, and Lahore accounting for 3,205 of these cases. Despite the challenges posed by the outbreak, medical professionals are diligently providing care to those affected, particularly infants who are more susceptible to the disease.
Health experts have identified smog and air pollution as key contributing factors to the spike in pneumonia cases. With pneumonia predominantly caused by viral infections, authorities are emphasizing the importance of preventive measures and raising awareness, especially among vulnerable populations such as young children under five years old.
