PMD predicts Karachi temperatures to rise starting Wednesday

PMD warns Karachi temperatures to rise from Wednesday, while cold wave continues across Sindh and northern Pakistan.

Pakistan Meteorological Department – (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an early warning for Karachi, forecasting a rise in morning and evening temperatures starting Wednesday.

The minimum temperature is expected to be between 11°C and 13°C, while the maximum could reach 23°C to 25°C.

Winds from varying directions are likely over the next three days, and sea breezes may briefly pick up Wednesday evening. Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy.

Elsewhere in the province, the weather will remain cold to very cold.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with occasional rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected over the next 12 hours in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, northeast Punjab, and northeast Balochistan, along with snowfall in hilly areas.

Cold and dry weather is likely in other parts of the country.

Temperatures recorded in major cities on Tuesday morning were: Islamabad and Peshawar 10°C, Lahore 12°C, Karachi 14°C, Quetta –1°C, Murree and Gilgit 2°C, and Muzaffarabad 4°C.

Earlier, a severe cold wave continued to grip Karachi and the rest of Sindh, with temperatures dropping further across the province.

Rain and Snowfall Grip Pakistan as Weather System Enters

The department said the ongoing cold wave could persist until the end of the month, with temperatures likely to fall into single digits on several occasions.

The PMD also confirmed that the current cold spell has not broken any historical records. Karachi’s coldest temperature was recorded at zero degrees Celsius in 1934, followed by 1.3 degrees in 1986, 6.5 degrees in 2014, 5.6 degrees in 2020, and between 6.2 and 8 degrees Celsius in January 2025.
