PMD Forecasts Western Disturbance Bringing Rain, Snow Across Pakistan
From the evening of December 30 to January 2, Murree and the Galyat region may experience rain
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the arrival of a western disturbance from December 29, expected to bring intermittent rainfall and snowfall to several regions of the country over the coming days.
The system is predicted to strengthen on December 30, affecting northern and central areas by December 31, and will remain over northern regions until January 2, 2026.
Punjab:
From the evening of December 30 to January 2, Murree and the Galyat region may experience rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in hilly areas. On December 31 and January 1, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Potohar region, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Gujrat are expected to face heavy winds, rain, and thunderstorms. Light rain with strong winds is forecast in Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Norpur Thal, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, and Sahiwal.
Balochistan:
From tonight through December 31, cities including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Nushki, Harnai, Zhob, Qalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, and Kharan are expected to experience strong winds, rainfall, and snowfall in mountainous regions.

Sindh:
Light rain or drizzle is likely in Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, and surrounding areas.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:
On December 30 and 31, intermittent rain with thunderstorms and strong winds is forecast in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Kohat. Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in the upper regions.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir:
From the evening of December 30 to January 2, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghizer, Shigar, and Kashmir regions including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhnoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur are expected to witness intermittent rain and moderate snowfall.
The PMD has urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions in areas expecting heavy rainfall, snowfall, and strong winds.
