Pakistan urges diplomacy in call with Iran leader

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday, emphasizing the urgent need to ease tensions in the Middle East through dialogue and diplomacy.

The contact came as the regional conflict entered its fourth week, following the escalation that began on February 28 after military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. The situation has since intensified, raising serious concerns across the region.

During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the Gulf and stressed that all countries must work together to reduce tensions. He highlighted that peaceful dialogue remains the only viable path to resolving disputes.

The premier also underlined the importance of unity among Muslim nations, noting that collective efforts are essential in such a critical time. He assured the Iranian leadership that Pakistan would continue its diplomatic engagement and play a positive role in promoting regional peace.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s support, Shehbaz Sharif conveyed solidarity with the Iranian people and extended condolences over the loss of lives caused by the ongoing conflict. He also expressed hopes for the swift recovery of those injured and affected.

The leaders exchanged Eid-ul-Fitr and Nowruz greetings, with President Pezeshkian reciprocating the sentiments and conveying his best wishes for the people of Pakistan.
