PM Lauds FBR's Digitalisation Progress, Urges Expansion of Faceless System

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level review meeting to evaluate the progress of the Ministry of Housing’s ongoing initiatives and directed the expedited completion of federal low-cost housing projects. He highlighted the importance of engaging the private sector to boost investment and stressed the need for the Ministry to present a comprehensive plan for world-class facilities.

The Prime Minister also instructed that the National Housing Policy be approved by March and emphasized the selection of internationally renowned construction companies through a transparent, merit-based process. He assured the public that reforms were underway to reduce corruption and ensure timely project completions.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the dissolution of the Public Works Department (PWD) and other inactive institutions, noting a significant reduction in corruption. The digitalisation of the government housing allotment system was also hailed as a major reform.

In addition to the housing sector, PM Shehbaz highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s international profile through major events, including international cricket matches and conferences. He announced plans for world-class infrastructure, such as hotels and hospitals, to cater to international visitors, and directed the implementation of third-party validation for federal housing projects to ensure quality and transparency.

In a separate meeting, the Prime Minister commended the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for its progress in digitalisation, including the rollout of a faceless assessment system. He urged the expansion of the system to other cities and the use of artificial intelligence to further streamline processes. Additionally, he instructed the formulation of a strategy for expanding the track-and-trace system to more industrial sectors.
