PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders Dissolution of PWD, Emphasizes Efficiency and Reform

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives for the immediate dissolution of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD), aiming to streamline operations and safeguard employee interests during the transition. This decision, announced following a high-level meeting attended by federal ministers and senior officials, underscores a comprehensive plan to replace PWD functions under new leadership chaired by the Prime Minister himself.

The meeting also focused on completing ongoing projects through federal and provincial entities, while exploring partnerships with private sector firms renowned for construction and repair services. PM Shehbaz Sharif stressed the digitization of PWD’s asset records as part of efforts to enhance transparency and efficiency in governmental operations.

“I will personally oversee this process to ensure accountability and fiscal prudence,” remarked PM Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting the government’s commitment to rationalize public expenditure and improve service delivery. The decision follows earlier steps to form a committee tasked with finalizing the dissolution plan, with a clear mandate to optimize governmental resources and operational effectiveness.
