PM Shehbaz Sharif Meets Chaudhry Nisar Amid Speculation of Political Reconciliation

Significant Political Development Expected as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Meets Chaudhry Nisar

Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a visit to the residence of former Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in Rawalpindi, where the two leaders held a crucial meeting to discuss political matters.

The meeting signals a possible important shift in the country’s political landscape. During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was accompanied by Chaudhry Nisar’s son, Timor Ali Khan. The discussions reportedly revolved around current political affairs.

Sources reveal that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to Chaudhry Nisar to rejoin the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The Prime Minister also inquired about Chaudhry Nisar’s health, remarking, “Chaudhry Sahib, you have forgotten us.” To which Chaudhry Nisar responded, “No, no Mian Sahib, it’s just that my health hasn’t been well.”

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left Chaudhry Nisar’s residence. This marks their second meeting in eight years, with their first encounter after seven years having taken place last year. According to reports, the recent visit was partly to offer condolences on the passing of Chaudhry Nisar’s sister.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was once a senior leader of PML-N and remained affiliated with the party for over 34 years before parting ways in 2018. At that time, he stated his departure was guided by his conscience, emphasizing that he engaged in politics for respect, not power.

In the 2018 general elections, he contested as an independent candidate for four national and provincial assembly seats from Rawalpindi, criticizing the party for awarding tickets to political novices. Media reports also suggest that after leaving PML-N, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) attempted to recruit him, but despite his personal ties with PTI chairman Imran Khan, Chaudhry Nisar declined to join the party.

This recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar has sparked speculation of potential reconciliation and realignment within Pakistan’s political arena.
