PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls 26th Constitutional Amendment a Milestone for Stability

Amendment aims to enhance justice system and strengthen democracy amid improving economic conditions.

Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which was approved by parliament with a two-thirds majority, will serve as a crucial step toward achieving economic and political stability and development in the country.

During a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad today, he addressed the delays faced by citizens in legal proceedings and expressed confidence that the constitutional amendment, which includes the creation of constitutional benches, will ensure timely and accessible justice.

The Prime Minister noted that this amendment is a significant achievement aligned with the vision set forth in the Charter of Democracy. He highlighted that the draft of the amendment was formulated after extensive discussions with various political parties, including opposition members, reflecting a spirit of consultation.

He praised the efforts of the Foreign Office, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry of Interior, the armed forces, and law enforcement agencies for their role in the successful hosting of the SCO heads of government meeting in the federal capital, which has enhanced Pakistan’s image.

Regarding the upcoming visit of the Chinese Premier, the Prime Minister stated that it would further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.

He also expressed satisfaction with the gradual improvement in the economic landscape, noting that inflation has dropped to 6.9 percent, and the policy rate has decreased significantly, with expectations of further reductions.

Expressing deep concern over the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon, the Prime Minister called for an immediate ceasefire to end the violence against innocent civilians. He announced that a comprehensive program has been established to provide humanitarian aid to the affected populations in Gaza and Lebanon, urging the public to contribute to the Prime Minister’s relief fund.
