PM Shehbaz Sharif Admits Load Shedding Promise Made in the Heat of the Moment

Sharif emphasized that all government hospitals in Punjab offered free treatment, underscoring the right of the poor to access education and healthcare at their doorstep.
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged that his 2013 election campaign promise to end load shedding within six months was made in a moment of enthusiasm. Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of the Jinnah Medical Center in Islamabad, Sharif reflected on the promise that drew much ridicule and criticism. He shared that he had prayed for his integrity to be upheld, and under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, the government succeeded in eliminating load shedding by 2018.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the significance of the Jinnah Medical Center, stating it will become a premier healthcare facility in the region, providing exceptional medical services. The center will feature state-of-the-art laboratories and a nursing school, aiming to treat some of the world’s most challenging diseases. This facility is a gift from the coalition government not only to the residents of Islamabad but also to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Sharif emphasized that all government hospitals in Punjab offered free treatment, underscoring the right of the poor to access education and healthcare at their doorstep. He criticized a so-called judge for allegedly conspiring to undermine the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), which is now once again serving thousands of patients daily.
