ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday convened a meeting to review the performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) upon his return from Saudi Arabia. He lauded the tax machinery’s recovery of Rs. 34.5 billion on short notice and thanked government officials and departments.
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the work of several ministers, officials, and agencies, including Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, and others, including Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmood Langrial and senior officers from the Intelligence Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The Prime Minister acknowledged the significance of this recovery and said the national treasury would benefit from it but demanded more.
He emphasized the need for a permanent and sustainable system to ensure more success. He directed the formulation of a comprehensive action plan for more stringent FBR reforms, including legal frameworks, workforce improvements, and the implementation of tax laws. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of digitization, third-party validation, and continuous monitoring for FBR’s system to improve.
