PM Shehbaz Expresses Confidence in Economic Team’s Efforts for Pakistan’s Prosperity

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday voiced his strong belief that Pakistan will achieve its economic goals within the next six months, thanks to the tireless efforts of the economic team.

During a meeting with the federal cabinet, the Prime Minister highlighted those remittances in the first five months of the current fiscal year had reached a record-breaking US$15 billion, with projections to hit US$35 billion by June 2025. Despite opposition challenges, he credited the government for maintaining macroeconomic stability.

“The sun of 2025 will rise with the promise of progress and prosperity for Pakistan,” Prime Minister Shehbaz remarked optimistically while wishing a happy new year to the nation.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the newly launched “Uraan Pakistan” five-year plan for the country’s future, stressing the need for continued hard work to ensure its success. He commended key figures such as Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and other cabinet members for their contributions toward the country’s economic progress.

Acknowledging the government’s commitment to export-led growth, the Prime Minister called for a concentrated effort in this area to achieve long-term economic prosperity. He also expressed gratitude towards the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, the Finance Minister, and Deputy PM Ishaq Dar for their role in generating Rs 72 billion through the Advance-to-Tax Ratio (ADR), helping the government meet its tax revenue target for December 2024.

In a positive development, the Prime Minister revealed that the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) digitization project, supported by a $6 million contribution from the Bill Gates Foundation, had yielded promising results, including a 39% reduction in container inspection time and 89% relief for businessmen.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister praised efforts to curb smuggling, especially the successful reduction of sugar smuggling through Afghanistan, attributing this achievement to Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanvir Hussain, the relevant institutions, and the Army Chief.

In closing, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, highlighting that no scandals had emerged during its first nine months in power. On the issue of terrorism, he reassured the nation that law enforcement agencies were fully committed to defeating any nefarious plans by enemies of the state.

The Prime Minister’s remarks provided a hopeful outlook for Pakistan’s economic future, reinforcing confidence in the government’s efforts to steer the country toward growth and stability.
