US – Pakistan – (Special Correspondent / Web) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a new chapter in Pakistan’s relationship with the United States following a very positive meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington.
He stated that President Trump promised full cooperation to boost trade and economic ties between the two nations. This meeting, which also included Pakistan’s powerful Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is seen as a significant step in resetting relations.
During their talks, the leaders explored American investment in key areas of Pakistan’s economy.
The Prime Minister specifically pointed to opportunities in oil and gas exploration, mining, information technology, and agriculture This builds on a recent trade deal where the US agreed to lower tariffs on Pakistani exports and partner on developing Pakistan’s energy resources.
Prime Minister Sharif also praised President Trump’s role in global peace efforts. He revealed that Pakistan nominated the US President for the Nobel Peace Prize, thanking him for his intervention to de-escalate tensions between Pakistan and India after a recent conflict and for working towards a ceasefire in Gaza.
Sharif claimed that Pakistan achieved a “historic victory” in this conflict, which he said demonstrated the nation’s military strength.
Highlighting other foreign policy successes, the Prime Minister mentioned a new defense agreement with Saudi Arabia. He described the pact as a promise that an attack on one country would be treated as an attack on both, solidifying their long-standing alliance.
On the domestic front, Sharif addressed serious challenges, including devastating floods that have claimed over a thousand lives and destroyed crops.
He stressed that his government’s main focus is on economic recovery, tackling poverty and unemployment, and equipping the youth with modern skills in fields like artificial intelligence and IT to secure a better future for Pakistan.
