PM Shahbaz Urges Global Support for Afghan Refugee Repatriation

Prime Minister Sharif urged the UNHCR to facilitate sustainable solutions for Afghan refugees.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has called on the international community to aid in the safe and dignified return of Afghan refugees to their homeland.
During a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, at the Prime Minister’s House, PM Shahbaz Sharif acknowledged the UN’s four-decade support in hosting Afghan refugees. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to treating Afghan refugees with respect and dignity despite numerous challenges.
Prime Minister Sharif urged the UNHCR to facilitate sustainable solutions for Afghan refugees. He underscored that their repatriation is a top priority for the Pakistani government. Highlighting the socio-economic challenges and security threats faced by Pakistan, he called for the global community to share the burden and assist in reducing these pressures.
High Commissioner Grandi lauded Pakistan for its decades-long support of millions of Afghan refugees. He reaffirmed the UNHCR’s commitment to collaborating with Pakistan to address the basic needs of Afghan refugees and support their eventual return.
