Shehbaz Demands Justice for Palestinian People
PM praises Trump’s peace efforts, urges global action for lasting Gaza ceasefire
WASHINGTON-(Special Correspondent/Web Desk)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday urged the international community to work collectively toward a credible and practical pathway for Palestinian self-determination, calling for the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Peace Board in Washington, the prime minister expressed hope that under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, meaningful progress could be achieved toward a just and durable resolution of the Palestine issue.
He emphasized that the Palestinian people had endured decades of occupation and hardship, stressing that sustained peace required an end to ceasefire violations and firm support for reconstruction efforts in Gaza. He underscored that Palestinians must have full authority over their land and future in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
Praises Trump’s Diplomacy
The prime minister commended President Trump’s diplomatic efforts, particularly highlighting what he described as a timely intervention that helped secure a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, averting potentially large-scale losses.
He described the US president as a “man of peace” and expressed confidence that Trump’s continued efforts could leave a historic legacy in achieving long-term stability in Gaza and other global conflict zones.
Sharif said the Peace Board meeting marked an important moment in global diplomacy and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for initiatives aimed at resolving international disputes through dialogue.
Trump lauds PM Shehbaz, Gen Asim at Washington Board meeting
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Washington at the invitation of President Trump to attend the maiden meeting of the Peace Board.
He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
In addition to attending the Peace Board session, the prime minister is expected to meet senior US officials to discuss bilateral ties and key global issues. Officials said the visit reflects Pakistan’s active diplomatic engagement and its role in promoting global peace.
Reaffirms Commitment to Social Justice
Earlier, in a message marking World Day of Social Justice on February 20, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to equality, inclusion and human dignity.
Referring to this year’s theme, “Empowering Inclusion: Bridging Gaps in Social Justice,” he stressed the need for inclusive policymaking and stronger social protection systems.
He highlighted the government’s efforts in poverty reduction, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and job creation. The prime minister also pointed to the “Uraan Pakistan” National Economic Transformation Plan (2024–2029) as a key initiative aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Security Forces Praised for Anti-Terror Operation
Separately, the prime minister lauded security forces for killing four terrorists linked to Fitna al-Khawarij during an operation in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He commended the professionalism and courage of the armed forces, reaffirming the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam.” He stressed that operations would continue until lasting peace is restored across the country.
