PIA Expands Operations with New Domestic and International Routes

PIA to Boost Fleet with Reactivated Aircraft, Aims for 24 Operational Jets

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to expand its flight network with the introduction of several new domestic and international routes starting in January 2025. The airline will operate these services using Boeing 777 and Airbus 320 aircraft, aiming to enhance its operational reach and passenger service offerings.

Starting January 20, PIA will launch two weekly flights between Sialkot and Bahrain, followed by a weekly flight between Lahore and Kuwait on January 25. Additionally, PIA will introduce two weekly flights between Lahore and Dammam beginning January 22, and one weekly flight between Faisalabad and Jeddah starting January 20. A weekly flight will also be added between Peshawar and Karachi on January 25, and between Sialkot and Doha on January 21.

The move comes after PIA’s acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Khurram Mushtaq, revealed plans to boost the airline’s fleet operations by reactivating several grounded aircraft. This effort aims to increase the airline’s operational fleet to 24 aircraft within the next six months. Currently, PIA’s fleet consists of 34 aircraft, with 16 in operation. The airline has already managed to activate three aircraft, including a Boeing 777, an Airbus 320, and an ATR, bringing the number of active aircraft to 19.

In addition to expanding its flight services, PIA has announced plans to use Boeing 777 aircraft for air operations to European destinations. The airline’s expansion efforts are part of a broader strategy to revitalize its fleet and boost revenue, with the goal of bringing all 34 aircraft into operation by the end of 2025.

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve employee morale and performance, PIA has also approved a 25% salary increase for its employees. This announcement comes as part of the airline’s broader plan to revitalize operations and enhance service delivery.
