PHF School Hockey Program Expands to 711 Schools Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: (Sports Desk) – A total of 711 schools from 54 districts have joined the Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) School Hockey Program, marking a major step toward reviving the sport at the grassroots level.

According to the PHF, Karachi and Toba Tek Singh have recorded the highest registrations, with 114 schools each. Rawalpindi follows with 89 schools, while Rahim Yar Khan has registered 68. The program also includes 53 schools from Jhang, 36 from Sahiwal, 33 from Chiniot and 32 from Faisalabad.

Under the initiative, registered schools will establish under-15 boys’ and girls’ hockey teams. The PHF will provide participating institutions with sports equipment, coaching support and opportunities to compete in regular tournaments.

The federation is also focusing on training and certifying school-level coaches to improve the quality of coaching. The program aims to create a clear pathway for talented young players to progress from school competitions to district, provincial, junior and national teams.

The PHF said the registration of 711 schools represents only the beginning of its nationwide expansion plan. The federation intends to bring more schools, particularly from underrepresented districts, into the program while conducting district-wise monitoring to further increase participation.
