PFA recovers over 4,000 kg of dead chicken meat in Lahore
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has recovered and destroyed more than 4,000 kilogrammes of dead and diseased chicken meat during an operation at Lahore’s Tollinton Market.
Food safety teams carried out early-morning raids and set up checkpoints in the area, inspecting 36 meat warehouses, suppliers and shops.
During the operation, two meat units were fined heavily, while notices were issued to 10 others.
According to PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javed, veterinary specialists present at the site declared the recovered chickens unfit for human consumption after a detailed examination.
He said the diseased chickens were intended to be slaughtered and supplied to the market, but timely action by the meat safety team prevented their distribution.
The PFA chief warned that the consumption of diseased and substandard meat can cause serious illnesses, adding that profiteering elements prioritise earnings over public health by selling disease instead of food.
He urged citizens to verify the quality of food items before purchasing them and to report any violations to the Punjab Food Authority helpline at 1223.
The director general said that, on the directives of the Punjab chief minister, PFA teams are continuing operations to ensure the supply of safe and quality food, and strict action against those endangering public health will continue under a zero-tolerance policy.
