Petrol Pumps May Shut Amid Supply Crisis

Petroleum Dealers Warn Petrol Pumps Could Close From Monday

LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has warned that petrol pumps across the country could begin shutting down from Monday if the supply of petroleum products is not restored immediately. The association expressed serious concern over the worsening shortage of fuel nationwide.

PPDA Central Secretary General Chaudhry Irfan Elahi stated that petrol supply has dropped by nearly 50 percent across the country, while diesel availability has fallen to only 20 percent of normal levels. He warned that such a drastic decline could significantly disrupt the transport sector and daily economic activity.

Lahore President Jahanzeb Malik and Central Punjab President Noman Majeed urged the government to ensure a steady supply of petrol to retail outlets. They also criticized authorities, claiming that instead of checking supply depots, inspections are being carried out at petrol pumps, which they say unfairly targets dealers.

Shehbaz Sharif Warns Petrol Hoarders of Legal Action

The association further alleged that some private companies have begun hoarding petroleum products, creating an artificial shortage in the market. A day earlier, the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating that limited supply has made it difficult for pumps to meet public demand.

Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) rejected the dealers’ claims and maintained that the country currently has sufficient fuel reserves. According to OGRA, early imports have ensured that Pakistan holds enough petrol stocks to meet around 28 days of consumption, urging the public not to panic.
