Petrol, Diesel Prices Increased Again in Pakistan

The hike in prices comes amid fluctuating global oil prices and increased demand in the international energy markets.

ISLAMABAD-(Mudassar Iqbal)-The Government of Pakistan has announced another increase in the prices of petroleum products, effective from July 16, 2025, for the next fortnight. The revision was made on the recommendation of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and in consultation with relevant ministries, according to a press release issued by the Finance Division on Monday.

Revised Fuel Prices (per liter):

Product Old Price (w.e.f. July 1) New Price (w.e.f. July 16) Increase
High Speed Diesel Rs. 272.98 Rs. 284.35 +Rs. 11.37
MS (Petrol) Rs. 266.79 Rs. 272.15 +Rs. 5.36

The hike in prices comes amid fluctuating global oil prices and increased demand in the international energy markets. The government attributed the adjustment to international trends, exchange rate fluctuations, and efforts to maintain supply chains without causing fiscal imbalances.

Public Reaction & Economic Impact

The increase—particularly the Rs. 11.37 hike in diesel—could have a ripple effect across sectors, especially transportation, agriculture, and logistics, where diesel is a primary fuel. Petrol’s Rs. 5.36 rise is also expected to burden daily commuters and raise operational costs for businesses.

Government’s Position

The Finance Division stated that the revision is part of a fortnightly pricing mechanism meant to reflect actual market trends. Officials argue that the new prices aim to ensure smooth fuel availability across the country while avoiding supply disruptions.
