Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked Again: Petrol Up by Rs4.80, Diesel by Rs7.95 Per Litre

The increase in high-speed diesel is expected to have broader inflationary effects.

Islamabad— The federal government has announced a significant hike in fuel prices, raising the price of petrol by Rs4.80 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs7.95 per litre for the next 15 days.

According to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Sunday, the new petrol price now stands at Rs262.59 per litre, up from Rs257.79, while the price of HSD has risen to Rs258.43 per litre from the previous Rs250.48. The revised rates take effect from June 16.

This marks the second consecutive increase in petrol prices, following a modest Re1 hike in the previous fortnight, despite relatively stable trends in global oil markets.

Petrol is predominantly consumed by private vehicles, motorcycles, rickshaws, and small cars, making this price surge a direct blow to middle- and lower-middle-income households, who already face financial pressures from ongoing inflation.

Meanwhile, the increase in high-speed diesel is expected to have broader inflationary effects. Diesel powers the majority of heavy transport, agricultural machinery, and commercial freight, meaning higher diesel costs will likely push up prices of essential goods, including vegetables and other food items, as transportation becomes more expensive.

The government has not issued a detailed explanation for the latest price revision, but officials cited adjustments in international petroleum prices and exchange rates as influencing factors.

Consumers and industry representatives have voiced concern over the persistent increases in fuel prices, warning of further pressure on household budgets and inflation.
