PESCO Announces No Loadshedding on 9th and 10th Muharram in Peshawar

Muharram marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar and holds immense spiritual significance.

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has announced that there will be no loadshedding on the 9th and 10th of Muharram 2025, ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the most significant days of the Islamic month, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

A PESCO spokesperson stated that 94 dedicated feeders have been designated to provide round-the-clock electricity, especially to imam bargahs across the city. A special control room has also been established at PESCO headquarters, staffed with senior officials to monitor and manage the power supply efficiently throughout the sacred period.

In preparation for Ashura processions, PESCO has also removed all low-hanging power lines along the designated routes to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of participants.

Meanwhile, the district administration has imposed Section 144 in Peshawar to maintain law and order during the holy month. The Deputy Commissioner’s Office confirmed a ban on pillion riding, the movement of Afghan refugees, aerial firing, hate speech, and misuse of loudspeakers during the observance of Muharram.

Additionally, hotel room rentals, inns, and rent-a-car services have been temporarily suspended in the city as part of security measures.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee earlier announced the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram moon on June 26, confirming that Ashura will be observed on July 6, 2025, across the country.
