PDMA on High Alert as Punjab Braces for Rain Until October 8
Control rooms operational 24/7; rescue teams and equipment on standby for potential emergencies
The Director-General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, announced on Sunday that all departments in Punjab have been placed on high alert.
This action follows directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after the PDMA issued a fresh rain alert. During an interview on a private news channel, Kathia assured that they are fully prepared to handle any potential emergency situations, with rainfall forecasted until October 8.
“Our control rooms are operational around the clock, and rescue teams with necessary equipment are on standby,” Kathia stated.
He confirmed that water levels in all rivers and canals are currently stable and noted that steps have been taken to ensure adequate drainage in flood-prone areas.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in various regions, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Swabi, Charsadda, and Nowshera, from October 5 to 8. Rain and wind are also predicted in Mardan, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan from October 5 to 7, with occasional breaks.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain and winds, possibly accompanied by isolated hailstorms, are forecasted for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, and Faisalabad between October 5, 7, and 8, with intermittent breaks.
In Kashmir, rain and wind are anticipated from October 5 to 8 in areas such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.
Balochistan is also expected to receive rainfall in Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Lasbela, Panjgur, and Awaran on October 7.
Meanwhile, Sindh is likely to experience hot and dry weather conditions.
