PDMA Issues Alert Ahead of Heavy Monsoon Rains

DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia emphasized that district administrations must ensure all safety measures during the monsoon season.

Lahore : The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to administrations across Punjab, urging them to remain vigilant as monsoon rains begin.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, monsoon rains have started across the province, with this year’s rainfall expected to be up to 30% higher than usual.

The PDMA’s notice outlines the expected rainfall for July: 15 to 50 millimeters in the first week, 25 to 35 millimeters in the second week, 15 to 25 millimeters in upper and southern Punjab in the third week, and 50 to 70 millimeters in the fourth week.

The notice also warns of heavy rains with thunderstorms in upper, central, and southern Punjab, posing risks of urban flooding and flash floods in southern Punjab’s hill torrents. In light of the expected severe rains, Punjab Chief Minister’s directives have prompted relevant departments to stay on high alert.

He also urged the completion of cleaning and drainage systems promptly, stating that proactive measures and mutual cooperation can mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
