Schools in Islamabad Must Seek Parental Consent for Health Lessons

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Senate and National Assembly have passed a bill allowing students aged 14 and above in the Islamabad Capital Territory to receive reproductive health education in schools, with prior written consent from parents or legal guardians.

The legislation was introduced in the National Assembly by Shazia Marri and had earlier been tabled in the Senate by Quratul Ain Marri, where it received approval before being adopted by the lower house. The bill will now be sent to the President for final assent before becoming law.

According to Senator Quratul Ain Marri, the comprehensive reproductive health curriculum provides structured education covering the cognitive, emotional, physical, and social dimensions of reproductive health. The program aims to equip students with knowledge, skills, and values to make informed decisions about their well-being, build respectful social relationships, and understand their rights.

The bill is specific to Islamabad’s jurisdiction and will take effect immediately upon presidential approval.
