Pakistan’s Semi-Final Hopes Hinge on Final Match
Green Shirts’ Semi-Final Chances Depend on New Zealand Results
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk)- Pakistan’s journey to the ICC T20 World Cup semi-finals has become complicated following their narrow defeat to England on Tuesday, when England won by two wickets to secure their spot in the next stage.
The loss has left Pakistan’s qualification hopes dependent on the outcomes of other matches in Group 2. Currently, England leads the group with four points after winning both of its matches, while Pakistan and New Zealand have one point each. Sri Lanka is yet to register a win. Pakistan has one match remaining, while New Zealand and Sri Lanka still have two matches to play.
ICC Revises T20 World Cup Semi Final Venues
For Pakistan to progress to the semi-finals, they must defeat Sri Lanka in their final Super 8 match on February 28. Additionally, New Zealand would need to lose both of its remaining matches—against England and Sri Lanka.
If England beats New Zealand and Sri Lanka also defeats New Zealand, Pakistan would advance with three points, while New Zealand would remain at zero points and Sri Lanka would have two points.
However, if England defeats New Zealand but New Zealand beats Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand would both have three points. In that scenario, semi-final qualification would be determined by net run rate, making the final outcomes of the last group-stage matches crucial for Pakistan’s hopes.
