In a separate development, on August 5, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed resigned and left the country amid severe unrest. This unrest has been described as some of the worst violence Bangladesh has faced since its independence over fifty years ago.

In response to the crisis, Bangladesh Army Chief Wakar uz Zaman held a press conference stating that the military would take charge of the country’s affairs and initiate discussions with political parties to form an interim government. He addressed the nation, promising to safeguard lives and property while urging an end to violence. He emphasized that cooperation, rather than conflict, is essential for finding a resolution.

Meanwhile, sources indicated that Sheikh Hasina and her sister have vacated Ganabhaban, the Prime Minister’s official residence, for a more secure location. Reports also noted that she had planned to make a speech but was unable to do so due to the circumstances.
