Pakistan’s JF-17 Jet Attracts New Export Deals After India Clashes

Pakistan’s JF-17 fighter jets: Affordable, fast, and versatile aircraft gaining international attention through deals with Sudan, Bangladesh, and Libya.

Mudassar Chudhry – Developed in partnership with China, the JF-17 fighter jet is an affordable yet capable aircraft that has become the backbone of Pakistan’s Air Force. Priced between $25-30 million per unit, over 150 of these jets are already in service. The jet can reach speeds of Mach 1.6 and carries a wide range of weapons, making it versatile for various combat missions.

Pakistan is now close to finalizing a $1.5 billion defense package for Sudan, which may include attack planes, drones, and potentially JF-17 fighters. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is in discussions for a similar deal, and Libya has signed an agreement worth $4-4.6 billion to acquire 16 of these jets.

The JF-17 proved its agility during the May 2025 skirmish with India, earning praise from analysts for its performance despite a limited budget. However, critics caution that production capacity is limited, and some claims about large international orders remain unconfirmed.
