Pakistan’s August oil sales jump 7% to 1.3m tonnes.

A Surge in Petrol and Diesel Meets a Steep Drop in Furnace Oil

Pakistan-(Special Correspondent / Web Desk) -Pakistan’s overall oil sales hit 1.3 million tonnes in August. This is a healthy 7% increase compared to the same month last year, showing a steady rise in energy demand.

Looking at the first two months of the financial year (July and August), total sales reached 2.52 million tonnes. This marks a 5% growth from the previous year, pointing to a strong start.

Petrol and Diesel Drive Growth

Sales of petrol, used mainly in cars and motorbikes, grew by 8% annually. An even stronger 10% monthly jump suggests more people are on the move. Experts link this rise to increased use of cars, bikes, and rickshaws.

Demand for diesel, a key fuel for trucks and agriculture, saw a powerful 14% year-on-year surge. This double-digit growth is a strong sign of busy transport and farming activity across the country.

Furnace Oil Demand Dries Up

In a major shift, furnace oil sales collapsed by a massive 71% in August. This heavy fuel is being rapidly phased out for electricity generation. The nation is now switching to cleaner and more affordable energy sources like natural gas and renewables.
