Pakistani Training Centre for Disadvantaged Youth Wins Prestigious $1 Million Aga Khan Award

ISLAMABAD – In a significant recognition of architectural excellence and social impact, a project from Pakistan has been named among the seven winners of the esteemed Aga Khan Award for Architecture for the 2023-2025 cycle.

The winning project, Vision Pakistan, is a training center in Islamabad designed to empower disadvantaged youth. The award jury selected it from a global pool of entries, highlighting its innovative design and profound contribution to community resilience and social transformation.

Designed by DB Studios, led by architect Mohammad Saifullah Siddiqui, the Vision Pakistan building provides a holistic environment for education and skill development. The facility offers programs in tailoring, literacy, life skills, and peace-focused education, aiming to help young people reintegrate into society as productive members.

The building’s architecture is celebrated for its thoughtful and sustainable design. Key features include:

  • Vibrant, pierced metal screens (jaali) that provide sun shading and privacy while creating a dynamic facade.

  • A focus on low-maintenance materials and sustainable practices.

The Aga Khan Award for Architecture is one of the world’s most prestigious architectural prizes, focusing on projects that address the needs and aspirations of contemporary Muslim societies. Each of the seven winning projects will receive a prize of $1 million.

The 2023-2025 winners span the globe, with projects in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iran (two), Pakistan, and Palestine. The Vision Pakistan project stands as a powerful testament to how architecture can be a catalyst for positive social change and community development.
