ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed deep condolences on the passing of Bangladesh’s first woman prime minister, Begum Khaleda Zia, describing her as a committed friend of Pakistan
In a post on X on Tuesday, President Zardari conveyed his sympathies to Khaleda Zia’s family and the people of Bangladesh, praising her leadership and services. “Her leadership and services will be remembered with respect,” he wrote, praying to Allah Almighty for peace for her soul and strength for the people of Bangladesh to bear the loss.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a statement on X, said, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, Chairperson of the BNP and former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Her lifelong service to Bangladesh and its growth and development leaves a lasting legacy.”
He added, “Begum Zia was a committed friend of Pakistan. My government and the people of Pakistan stand with the people of Bangladesh in this moment of sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and the people of Bangladesh during this difficult time. May Allah SWT bless her soul. Ameen!”
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar also expressed grief over her death. Posting on X, he prayed, “May Allah SWT grant her high place in Jannah and patience to the bereaved family. Ameen.”
