DUBAI: (Web Desk) – A Pakistani citizen was killed after debris from an aerial interception fell during an Iranian attack near the Al Dhafra airbase in the United Arab Emirates, as Tehran continued targeting US military installations across the Gulf region.
According to Dubai authorities, the victim died when debris from intercepted aerial threats struck near the Al Dhafra Air Base.
The developments come as the regional conflict escalated into its second week, with Iran continuing attacks against multiple locations while also intensifying strikes against Israel.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reportedly launched the 27th wave of attacks on Israel, targeting the Haifa Oil Refinery in response to Israeli strikes on Tehran’s refinery facilities.
Meanwhile, Gulf states reported multiple missile and drone attacks across the region. Authorities in Dubai confirmed that a drone was intercepted near the Al Barsha area, while air defence systems in Saudi Arabia destroyed 15 drones and one ballistic missile.
Iran also launched drones targeting military bases in Erbil and Bahrain, while a security facility in Kuwait came under attack, resulting in the deaths of two personnel.
Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah also launched missiles toward Israel as tensions continued to escalate across the Middle East.
According to reports, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait all reported drone or missile attacks over the weekend.
Kuwait’s military said drone strikes targeted fuel storage tanks at the country’s international airport, causing a fire that was later brought under control without major injuries. However, the interior ministry reported that two border guards were killed while performing their duties.
Air raid sirens were also activated in Bahrain, while Qatar’s defence ministry reported that 10 ballistic missiles and two cruise missiles were fired from Iran the previous day, most of which were intercepted.
Saudi Arabia also confirmed intercepting several aerial threats, including drones aimed at Riyadh’s diplomatic quarter.
UAE announces early spring break for schools
Despite earlier remarks by Iran’s president apologising to Gulf nations and saying they would not be targeted unless attacks were launched from their territories, Iranian officials later signalled that strikes could continue on sites linked to hostile operations.
In a rare televised address, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the country was currently experiencing “a period of war” but vowed that the UAE would emerge stronger from the crisis.
Authorities also temporarily closed Dubai International Airport on Saturday after an unidentified aerial object was intercepted nearby. Flight operations were later resumed after a brief suspension.
Officials say the UAE has been one of the most heavily targeted Gulf states during the conflict, with hundreds of ballistic missiles and more than 1,300 drones detected since hostilities began on February 28.
